“I really like the Dainichi range they have advantages I cannot find in other foods.
They incorporate montromillilite clay into the pellet this absorbs ammonia so as the fish is producing ammonia in its gut as it digests the food it is being absorbed by the clay. Not only does this lighten the load on the biological filter by reducing the ammonia it has to deal with but in addition it boosts the level of oxygen in the water returning to the pond from the filter this occurs because less oxygen is consumed from that water by the aerobic bacteria which take oxygen from the water to oxidise ammonia to nitrite ( NO2) and then to Nitrate ( NO3)
This boosts pond oxygen levels and higher oxygen levels help to prevent pH drop and energise the fish.
The other advantage is that the nutrients destroyed when pellet fish foods are baked as part of the manufacturing process are restored to their pellets by spraying them after they are baked with a spray containing those nutrients destroyed in the baking process.
No compromises are made in the selection of the ingredients these are not rhe left overs of processing human food they are specifically bought unprocessed for inclusion in Dainichi foods! Of course all this comes at a cost! To the best of my knowledge Dainivhi fish foods are the most expensive on the Australian market .
Many of my clients prior to my initial on site consult with them believed all fish foods were similar so bought the cheapest.

In many countries the cheapest fish foods are fish foods diverted from the aquaculture industry. The prime objective for aquaculture food manufacturers is to maximise growth and minimise cost of the food so compromises are made the end result of these is thst the livers and kidneys of fish fed this food work very hard in processing this food ageing them prematurely this is of no consequence to the fish farmers as the farmed fish are processed long before being debilitated by overworked livers and kidneys! Of course they feed their breeders different foods.

Pond fish keepers want healthy long lived colourful fish a quite different set of objectives!
At least 90% of (even long term, experienced) fish keepers I do on site consultancies for overfeed their fish they are assuming vaguely similar portions in relation to body weight of other pets is required. NOT SO!! Fish are cold blooded they are not burning up food to maintain body weight so require far less food! Many fish keepers either follow the food manufacturers self serving recommendation or feed until the fish are no longer as interested in food! As a result far more hard work is required to keep this overfed pond in good condition. Fish themselves provoke overfeeding by acting hungry while engorging themselves! this is because in nature.their diet is aquatic so is 90% comprised of water and is relatively low in nutrition compared to to dried processed fish foods so in nature it is entirely appropriate for fish to eat all they can hold.
It is not uncommon for new clients to reduce feeding by 90% pay 8 x as much per kg to switch to Dainichi food and actually not only save money on fish food but also make keeping the pond in better condition very much easier plus have more healthy fish a win win win situation.
For Sydney climate in sum.er pond fish need thexequivslent of 2 eyeball volumes of fish food per day as an average in early spring and late autumn and winter I eyeball per day as the daily average. Stop feeding uf the water temp drops belowx12° C as koi and comets cease digesting food at that temp.
If a few greedy fish are dominating the food do not increase the weekl ration food but feed on fewer days”
